In a tragic turn of events, a brave Dalmatian named Tyson lost his life after protecting his family from a venomous cobra in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
The family’s distressing experience began in the early hours when Ameen Sharif was awakened by frantic barking. Upon investigating, he discovered Tyson engaged in a fierce struggle with an Indian cobra.
Despite successfully neutralizing the threat, Tyson soon showed signs of distress and pain.
Concerned, Ameen found a bite mark on Tyson’s face and immediately sought advice from snake expert Subhendu Mallik, who confirmed the snake was an Indian cobra and recommended urgent veterinary attention.
Unfortunately, due to the incident occurring at 2 a.m., Ameen’s attempts to contact a veterinarian went unanswered. Within half an hour, Tyson succumbed to the snake bite, leaving his family heartbroken.
Reflecting on the event, Ameen told Ommcom News, “We witnessed Tyson valiantly fighting the snake near our porch.
The cobra died after biting our beloved pet, but sadly, we couldn’t reach anyone for the necessary anti-venom treatment, and Tyson passed away despite our efforts.”
Ameen expressed deep sorrow over the lack of emergency veterinary services, especially given the abundance of 24-hour human hospitals. “Our family will always cherish Tyson’s dedication and bravery,” he said.
The incident, as noted by Subhendu Mallik, underscores a critical gap in veterinary care in Odisha. Tyson’s heroic act saved his family from harm but also highlighted the dire need for accessible emergency services for pets.
