Despite her dire circumstances, she did everything she could to care for her five puppies.

Life on the streets is harsh for any dog and even more so for a mother with five puppies to care for. Celeste and her puppies were found severely underweight, but she had used every bit of her strength and resources to keep them nourished and warm throughout the winter.
Elaine Nelson-Hosak, Celeste’s foster mother, described her as “extremely thin, and the puppies were just feeding like crazy.”
Despite Celeste’s starvation, her puppies were discovered to be healthy. For over five months, Celeste sacrificed her well-being to ensure her puppies were safe and fed. Finally, her story caught the attention it deserved.
According to the BC SPCA, Celeste prioritized her puppies’ needs over hers, often going without food to ensure they didn’t starve.
After enduring a harsh life on the streets, she finally received the care and affection she desperately needed.
Elaine Nelson-Hosak, who had recently lost her best friend, felt compelled to take Celeste and her puppies into her home.
Their meeting seemed destined, as they both needed healing. Elaine provided Celeste with a meticulous “refeeding” regimen of six small, nutrient-rich meals daily. This care helped Celeste gain 90 pounds steadily.
Four of Celeste’s five puppies have since been adopted into loving homes. Celeste, affectionately called “Momma” by her new family, has fully embraced her new life.
She enjoys cuddling on the couch and warming herself by the fire, a stark contrast to her former life on the streets. Now, Celeste is safe, comfortable, and cherished, finally able to experience the love she so selflessly gave to her puppies.
