During a routine walk near her house, Vanessa Grandez noticed a furry figure by the roadside. Concerned that it might be an animal in distress, she approached for a closer look. Her fears were confirmed when she discovered a dog that had been struck by a car, lying helplessly. Initially, the unmoving pup made her fear the worst, but hope returned when she saw him stir.

Determined to help, Grandez scooped up the injured dog and hurried him to a veterinarian. She could see the pain he was in and gently comforted him on the way. At the veterinary hospital, the staff promptly provided the necessary care for the ten-month-old pup. Despite being scared and confused, the dog, who was later named Peluchin, received reassurance from Grandez, who promised he would be alright.

Understanding the financial strain of medical expenses, Grandez initiated a fundraiser, successfully gathering enough funds to cover Peluchin’s surgery. After his operation, she took him home, dedicating herself to his recovery. Although Peluchin appeared a bit downcast, he was slowly healing both physically and emotionally with Grandez’s devoted care. She fed him and showered him with affection, providing the support he needed to heal.

Thanks to her nurturing spirit, Peluchin began to feel secure, and gradually, his playful nature emerged. Although his back legs remained immobile, leading him to crawl around the house, Grandez’s boyfriend, Sebastian, crafted a wheelchair to aid Peluchin’s mobility. This innovative solution encouraged him to regain strength and flexibility.

The wheelchair greatly improved Peluchin’s condition, giving him more energy and motivation. Unfortunately, Grandez was unable to keep him as a pet, but she was committed to finding him a loving home. Her efforts succeeded, and Peluchin found a new family. “Peluchin is much better now. Once his stitches were removed, I was able to place him with his new family. I felt like his mother throughout his recovery,” Grandez shared with The Dodo.

Although Peluchin still uses a wheelchair, he is thriving in his new environment. Grandez remains a part of his life, visiting him often. Each visit is met with an enthusiastic greeting, as Peluchin lovingly showers her with kisses. While he has made significant progress, Grandez hopes that one day Peluchin will be able to run freely and leap into her arms during her visits.
