A timely act of heroism unfolded unexpectedly near a highway overpass, where a man named David Fredman stepped in to save a dog in distress in Independence, Missouri.
While on his commute to work, Fredman noticed an unusual sight by the I-70 bridge: a dog hanging precariously from an electrical box with a cord wrapped tightly around its neck.

“I saw what looked like a dog dangling from the edge of an electrical box,” Fredman recounted to Fox4 KC. He added, “The dog seemed to be choking on the cord, its paws barely touching the ground.
It was desperately trying to move its head but couldn’t.”
Acting quickly, Fredman dialed 911 and then retrieved a knife to cut the dog loose. Once freed, the dog, struggling for breath, was utterly unable to walk.
Fredman calmed the animal and transported it to KC Pet Project, where they discovered the dog was microchipped and named Max.
Max’s owner, Dee Vaughn, had been searching for his pet and was relieved to hear Max was found just two hours after being reported missing.
However, Vaughn was dismayed to learn about the unfortunate circumstances his 16-year-old dog had endured.
The mystery of how Max ended up in such a dangerous predicament remains unresolved. Vaughn questioned whether it was an accident or a deliberate act since he believed the elderly dog couldn’t have traveled that far on his own.
With hopes of gaining clarity, Vaughn mentioned the potential assistance of security cameras in revealing Max’s ordeal. He also shared that while the police advised him to contact animal control, he is grateful that Max is safe.
In a heartfelt gesture, Vaughn expressed gratitude to Fredman, who had made a special effort to meet the man who rescued Max.
“Thank you, David, so much for stopping what you were doing to turn back and save my dog’s life,” Vaughn expressed with appreciation.
Fredman’s quick thinking and compassionate actions ensured a happy reunion between Max and his relieved owner, highlighting a positive outcome amidst the uncertainty surrounding the incident.
