Earlier this week, some compassionate passersby noticed a large plastic bin sitting in a parking lot at a nearby park.
Trusting their instincts, they decided to take a closer look. They were surprised to discover a family of cats nestled inside after lifting the lid. The group included an adult mother cat, her grown daughter, and four small kittens.
“It was their gut feeling that saved the two adult cats and four kittens inside,” shared the SPCA of Wake County.
The finders wasted no time and brought the feline family to the SPCA, where the staff expressed heartfelt gratitude for their quick action.
The SPCA provided the family with a safe, quiet environment to settle into, with one staff member opening up their home as a temporary foster.
The mother cat stayed close to her kittens while her older daughter, showing deep affection, remained by her side, purring and cuddling up to her mom.
SPCA staff noted that the bin had been left in a visible area, wrapped in blankets to keep the cats warm.
While shelters and rescues are stretched thin, the SPCA emphasized that their Pet Helpline is available for anyone needing guidance.
They acknowledged that whoever left the cats may have done their best to help without knowing other options.
Thanks to the attentive passersby, the feline family is now safe, with each cat settling comfortably in their new environment.
The mother is devoted to caring for her kittens, while her older daughter acts as a calming companion, often gently grooming her mother and purring softly by her side.
“The mom’s older daughter has been her emotional support friend,” Samantha Ranlet, Communications Manager at the SPCA of Wake County, explained. “She’s been grooming and cuddling her mom while she cares for the other kittens.”
The kittens, showing signs of good health and happiness, have started revealing their unique personalities. As they begin weaning and learning to eat independently, their mother will have more time to relax.
Though no longer nursing, the older daughter often snuggles close to her mom and siblings, forming a secure, tight-knit family.
“These six beautiful cats are healthy, purring, and in just the right place for a bright future,” the SPCA shared.
Soon, each of these cats will be ready for adoption, and their journey from a plastic bin to a warm foster home marks the beginning of a promising new chapter.
Thanks to the kind strangers who followed their intuition, this family of six has a safe path forward, filled with comfort, love, and hope for a happy future.
