For seven months, a kind-hearted dog named Lancer patiently stayed in his kennel at the City of Mobile Animal Services in Alabama.
During this time, he watched as other dogs came and went, while he was consistently overlooked and never chosen for a meet-and-greet.
Despite this, Lancer remained hopeful.
Lancer had a unique way of reaching out to people. Whenever visitors passed by his kennel, he would press his body against the bars and extend his paw through them, as if silently asking for a chance to be noticed and loved.
Mary Kate Hale, the digital media manager for City of Mobile Animal Services, shared, “Whenever someone would walk past his kennel, he would stick out his paw in an attempt for someone to hold it.”
The shelter staff was deeply touched by Lancer’s gentle nature and his love for peanut butter. Known for running around playfully, he would often nap in a shady spot, legs stretched out like a frog’s.
Despite his charming personality, Lancer seemed invisible to potential adopters.
“He is known for his sweet nature and love of peanut butter,” Hale commented. “After a round of playful running, he can be found napping with his legs sprawled out.”
A turning point came when a shelter volunteer captured a photo of Lancer reaching out with his paw. This image, filled with emotion, was shared on social media with a note about his loving spirit.
The response online was immediate.
“Within 24 hours of being posted on Facebook, Lancer caught the attention of his future dad, Nick,” Hale noted.
Nick was drawn to the sweetness in Lancer’s expression and sensed the heartfelt plea in that extended paw. He felt an instant bond, realizing that Lancer was meant to be his dog.
Before long, Lancer left the shelter for good.
Now, Lancer is finally where he belongs, showered with love, treats, and attention from his new family. Each time he extends his paw now, it is warmly held by his new dad.
After months of waiting, Lancer’s search for a loving touch has come to a happy end.
