It’s impossible for any genuine dog enthusiast not to feel a pang of sadness when they see dogs struggling to survive on the streets. Even when these animals find refuge in shelters with people to care for them, it’s still tough to witness them confined within kennel bars.
Just like humans seek companionship, dogs naturally long for a devoted human to embrace and love them daily—a relationship that’s seldom found in shelters.

One dog from Mokena, Illinois, encapsulates the loneliness and neglect experienced in such settings. This Pit Bull Terrier, named Priscilla, has spent over 500 days behind bars. If not for her cherished toys that offer her solace, enduring this would be even harder.
Priscilla was welcomed by the National Animal Welfare Society (NAWS) in Mokena in a severely malnourished state. After receiving care to restore her health, the shelter staff hoped she’d soon find a loving home. Yet as days turned into months, Priscilla remained overlooked by potential adopters, stuck in her dim and chilly kennel.

More than a year passed, and the disheartened shelter team decided to take action. On August 8, a TikTok user affiliated with NAWS, known as @frangrzesik, shared a poignant video narrating Priscilla’s story.
The video begins with a poster on Priscilla’s kennel, which says she has been at the shelter for 506 days and needs a home rather than a temporary refuge.
The video doesn’t just highlight the challenges; it also shares a glimmer of happiness during Priscilla’s stay at NAWS: her love for stuffed toys, which provide her some comfort. These toys are her favorite thing in the world, and while the staff enjoys spoiling her with them, they also reveal, “She is tired of waiting,” hoping this appeal will inspire someone to welcome Priscilla into their heart and give her a deserving life.

The video caption pleads, “Please spread the word that Priscilla is looking for her forever family. She deserves this.”
The heart-rending video gained significant attention on TikTok, moving many users who saddened by Priscilla’s plight.
Among countless comments, a few stand out. One user confessed, “I’m quite literally sobbing.” Another commented, “Boosting boosting for this sweet angel girl.” A third admirer noted, “So precious with the toy in her mouth.”

The post mentions that Priscilla “likes other dogs as long as they are calm” and notes that she has faced challenges with more energetic dogs.
As detailed on the NAWS website, Priscilla is “friendly, gentle, quiet, playful, affectionate, loyal, protective, independent, loves kisses, couch potato,” and she fits well in homes with “other dogs, cats, children.”
We earnestly hope the attention Priscilla received will lead to a joyous conclusion for her. This wonderful, toy-loving dog truly deserves nothing less. Fingers crossed for you, sweet girl.
