Khaleesi, a Golden Tabby tiger with strikingly pale eyes, is one of the 115 animals rescued by Turpentine Creek when they took over a facility in Colorado. Initially, Khaleesi lived with two other tigers, Joey and Aurora.

However, a sudden change in Aurora’s behavior led to her rejection of both Khaleesi and Joey, prompting a reorganization of their living arrangements. Now, Khaleesi and Joey share a habitat adjacent to Turpentine Creek’s Family Friendly Lodging.

The Golden Tabby tiger is believed to exist only in captivity, with an estimated population of 30 or fewer individuals worldwide.

Within this rare breed, Khaleesi stands out for her playful nature. She enjoys stalking her companions, lounging on her bench, and splashing in her pool during the warmer months.

Rescue Background

In 2016, the owner of a cub petting and breeding operation in Colorado was diagnosed with cancer and could no longer manage his business.

This prompted Turpentine Creek to acquire the now-defunct 12-acre exhibition facility to facilitate the rescue of the 115 animals left behind.

Upon arrival, Turpentine Creek staff discovered big cats living in cramped cages with inadequate shelter.

The records indicated minimal veterinary care and revealed connections between the former owner and Joe Exotic and breeding practices intended to supply animals to the cub petting and entertainment industries.

For six months, Turpentine Creek’s staff and interns worked tirelessly to care for the animals and coordinate their relocation to accredited sanctuaries nationwide.

Ultimately, all the rescued animals found permanent homes, with 34 of them, including Khaleesi, making their way to Turpentine Creek for a new lease on life.
