One day, a family discovered Wandi in their backyard, his adorable fox-like features prompting them to rush him to the Alpine Animal Hospital for a DNA test.
Dr. Rebekah Day, the attending veterinarian, noticed scars on Wandi’s back, likely caused by an eagle’s claws, hinting at a dramatic arrival to the ground.
Upon learning about Wandi’s plight, the Australian Dingo Foundation, dedicated to safeguarding wild canids, intervened, offering him sanctuary. Wandi’s identification as an alpine dingo, one of
Australia’s three distinct dingo classifications are a boon for the foundation, particularly as alpine dingoes face extinction due to habitat loss, hunting, and hybridization with domestic dogs.
Under the foundation’s care, Wandi has flourished, growing into a playful companion. Plans are underway to integrate him into the foundation’s breeding program, securing his future and contributing to dingo conservation efforts.
