While surveying the aftermath of the Camp Fire’s destruction in Paradise, Hill stumbled upon a heart-wrenching sight in a backyard: a horse entangled in a pool cover, trembling from the cold, with a defeated expression.

Jeff Hill, recounting the moment on Facebook, described the horse’s demeanor: “I was checking to see if someone’s house was standing we stumbled upon this [horse] who had given up and had the look of defeat in her eyes.” Hill and his team promptly sprang into action.

They carefully released the pool cover, guided the horse to the shallower end of the pool, and led her to safety up the steps. Once free, the horse showed her appreciation by briefly interacting with her rescuers, exuding confidence that she was now safe.
