Four years ago, a dog named “Cabezón” was found abandoned at a busy subway station in Lima, Peru. He was discovered secured to a cart, unable to move, with his head hanging low due to tightly fastened straps.
Sara Moran, who runs Milagros Perrunos, a shelter focused on caring for injured dogs in Peru, speculates that Cabezón may have been left this way by his owner after suffering an injury to his back legs.
Remarkably, it was a group of children who initially found Cabezón, offering him food and helping to free him from his restraints.

However, reports indicate that before being abandoned, Cabezón had been involved in an accident that left him unable to walk.
Amid the throngs of daily commuters, Cabezón’s plight went unnoticed. By the time he was brought to Sara, he was already in a dire state.
The children ultimately decided to take him to Sara’s home, knowing her reputation for caring for injured and paralyzed stray dogs by providing them with special beds.

Upon recognizing Cabezón’s severe condition, Sara immediately took him to a veterinarian. The examination revealed grim findings: severe spinal damage, kidney failure, and multiple wounds and sores.
The situation was exacerbated by his confinement, which caused him to suffer significant injuries due to his inability to control his bodily functions.

The veterinarian warned that Cabezón’s chances of survival were slim, and even if he lived, he would face lifelong paralysis.
Sara noted that in Peru, where stray animals are numerous, many might opt for euthanasia in cases like Cabezón’s—where a dog is left alone and seriously injured.
