Born with a severe facial deformity after a bite from his mother, Newt’s early life was defined by a significant scar that left him without the upper part of his nose.

Newt began his life at the New York Bully Crew Shelter in Texas, where he faced costly medical care to address his condition. Though he was surrounded by attentive caregivers, the expenses for his numerous surgeries and recovery were substantial.
His life took a hopeful turn when Liesl Wildhart, the founder of Luvable Dog Rescue and Animal Sanctuary in Eugene, Oregon, heard about him.
Liesl saw beyond Newt’s unusual appearance, recognizing the special light within him.
Enthralled by his story and photos, she chose to adopt him and gave him a fitting new name: Newt. In Liesl’s care, Newt, once abandoned by his mother and living with a permanent scar, found a home where love and safety were abundant.
In Eugene, Newt quickly integrated into his new family, which included two other canine companions, Picasso and Wacku, each with their own inspiring histories.
These furry siblings offered friendship and solace as Newt adjusted, morphing from a puppy marked by hardship into a cherished family member full of joy.
Though Newt requires extra care due to his facial surgery, such as help with eating, he thrives under Liesl’s nurturing. Despite his facial scar, his spirit remains unbroken, and he enjoys life with an admirable zest.
Liesl often finds inspiration in Newt and his siblings, amazed by how they adapt and thrive beyond their physical challenges.
