Directed by Halina Reijn, “Babygirl” features Kidman as Romy, a powerful businesswoman who risks her career and family life for a passionate affair with a younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson.
Kidman emphasized the importance of authentic storytelling, noting, “That’s probably why we constantly say we need women in all areas of filmmaking, telling different stories.”
The film premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in August and is set for U.S. release on December 25. Kidman’s performance has already garnered critical acclaim, earning her the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at Venice and the 2024 Best Actress award from the National Board of Review.
“Babygirl” delves into themes of power dynamics and sexuality, with Kidman’s portrayal of Romy offering a nuanced exploration of a woman’s desires and vulnerabilities. The film aims to present women as sexual beings regardless of age, a perspective Kidman finds both “beautiful” and rare in cinema.
As the release date approaches, audiences anticipate a compelling performance from Kidman, who continues to challenge herself with complex and daring roles.
