Pit Bull Who Spent 8 Years on Concrete Floor Now Enjoys All the Comforts She Deserves

Last Update:

Lola, a pit bull, spent the first eight years of her life confined to a dark and grimy garage, chained to the floor. She had no access to proper care, and her only comfort came from resting on the cold concrete.

With little attention and no veterinary treatment, Lola’s existence seemed bleak until one day, a concerned individual discovered her situation.

The discovery led to a call to AMA Animal Rescue, a group dedicated to animal welfare in New York. A team of rescuers arrived and convinced Lola’s owner to surrender her, giving her a chance at a new life.

Given Lola’s harsh past, it would have been understandable if she had been wary or aggressive. Instead, she greeted her rescuers with enthusiasm, wagging her tail and offering kisses to everyone. “We nicknamed her ‘wavy butt,’” said AMA volunteer Michele Walsh. “She was wagging her pretty little tail, incredibly sociable, kissing everyone, and was delighted to see her rescuers.”

After rescuers removed her chain, Lola was quickly taken to Animal Kind Veterinary Hospital, where she underwent surgery to remove tumors.

Following her recovery, she spent a few months in foster care before being adopted by Charlène von Saher, a resident of Manhattan.

In just a few days at her new home, Lola settled in, quickly finding her favorite beds and enjoying the softness and comfort she had never known.

“She found out where her little beds were, as well as what was soft and comfortable for her,” von Saher shared. Lola even began rearranging her space to make herself even more comfortable.

“She removed a cushion from my bed and put it in her dog’s bed. When I got home, she had her head on it – she had made a mini-bed for herself in my bed with my pillow,” von Saher said. “It was like a scene from ‘The Princess and the Pea.’ She liked to have many pillows under her.”

Lola’s love for comfort didn’t stop there. She’s even been seen stacking dog beds on top of each other for a more luxurious nap.

“I went out for a while, and when I came back, Lola had lifted the small bed above the larger bed and climbed on it. It was hilarious. When I walked in, I couldn’t believe it,” von Saher recalled.

Lola also enjoys basking in the sunlight—something she likely missed while locked away in the dark garage for so many years.

For von Saher, adopting Lola has been a life-changing experience. “I think she’s improving day by day,” von Saher said.

“They often say that when you adopt a dog, you save two. You take one and make room for another dog to enter the shelter or rescue organization.”

As for Lola, she’s brought so much joy into von Saher’s life. “I admire her. She has already brought so much to my life,” von Saher added, reflecting on the impact of giving Lola a new life filled with love and comfort.
