A young pit bull mix named Charlie was discovered in a dire situation, tied up beside a dumpster surrounded by trash. His face showed signs of being beaten, he was severely hungry, and maggots had infested his jowls, causing him immense pain.

Fortunately, two compassionate individuals found him and immediately rushed him to the care of Philadelphia Animal Hospital.

Adria Rebbecchi, the hospital’s communication director, described Charlie’s condition to The Dodo, sharing that the vets were shocked by the state of his wounds.

The hospital staff, moved by Charlie’s plight, took immediate action to relieve his pain and began the necessary medical treatment.

Charlie’s case was further supported by the hospital’s owner, who decided to cover all his medical expenses.

Immediate pain relief was provided, and plans for surgeries to treat the damage in his mouth were quickly set into motion, even though some tissue was beyond saving.

Although his condition made it hard for Charlie to eat, the dedicated veterinary team provided him with small, frequent meals to aid his recovery. His sweet and affectionate nature began to shine as his health improved.

Charlie found a friend in Natalie Barber from City of Elderly Love rescue, who visited him often and offered him encouragement.

Realizing Charlie would eventually need a loving home, the vets were delighted when Natalie stepped forward to foster him.

In an effort to learn more about Charlie’s past, the local ASPCA is investigating his previous owner, thanks to information from a microchip found on him.
