The kitten was found to have suffered brain trauma from a lack of oxygen and a painful mouth injury from being forced open.
At the veterinary clinic, Pookie’s condition looked bleak. She was on oxygen support and had to be fed through a tube, lying motionless with an oxygen mask over her face for days.
The rescue team braced themselves for the worst, not expecting her to survive. They watched nervously, hoping for any sign of progress as she remained unresponsive, her eyes firmly shut.
Remarkably, Pookie began to show signs of recovery. Her eyes gradually opened, though she experienced small seizures along the way. Despite these setbacks, her determination was evident.
The rescue team held their breath as she began to take her first wobbly steps. Initially, she could only move backward, but with time, her strength grew, and she was soon moving forward, inching towards recovery.
Pookie’s persistence paid off. Day by day, she improved and, eventually, she managed to eat on her own, which felt like a monumental achievement for her rescuers.

“She’s doing really great. She has her ups and downs, and we handle those on a daily basis. She’s still a happy cat with a good quality of life. We would never let her continue with a poor quality of life.”
