Pretty Boy the Elephant’s Heartwarming Journey to Recovery

Pretty Boy, an elephant known for his striking appearance, didn’t hesitate to seek assistance.

Despite suffering from a gunshot wound and enduring weeks of injuries, Pretty Boy took matters into his trunk. He approached veterinarians from the Animal and Wildlife Area Research and Rehabilitation Trust (AWARE) for help.

With his gentle disposition, Pretty Boy allowed veterinarians to examine the bullet-caused wound on his forehead.

X-rays revealed a deformed bullet lodged in his skull, causing significant damage but narrowly missing vital structures.

Dr. Lisa Marabini, AWARE’s director, explained that while the bullet caused substantial damage, Pretty Boy’s life was spared thanks to its trajectory.

Despite his injuries, Pretty Boy remained calm and cooperative during the examination.

It’s speculated that Pretty Boy sought refuge in Mana Pools National Park after being shot outside its boundaries, although details surrounding the incident remain unclear.

After receiving treatment to remove infected bone fragments and antibiotics, Pretty Boy showed promising signs of recovery.

Despite enduring harm inflicted by humans, Pretty Boy’s gentle nature serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience and grace of these majestic creatures.
