Adopting a dog is a long-term commitment that requires patience, time, and resources. While it’s natural to feel drawn to a puppy’s cuteness, caring for a dog involves much more than affection—it’s about meeting their needs consistently.
Mexican rescuer Alina, who leads the rescue group Recatalandia, recently highlighted a situation that reflects the importance of understanding the responsibilities of pet adoption.
Alina had recently put Nala, a young dog with an exuberant personality, up for adoption. Unfortunately, her new family returned her shortly after taking her home. They were unprepared for one of Nala’s quirks—she pees a little when she’s excited.
Alina expressed frustration with the situation, noting that the family likely hadn’t fully considered the challenges and joys of adopting a young dog.
“It frustrates me,” Alina said, “that they brought her back simply because she pees out of happiness. She just wanted to show them love.”
When she arrived to pick up Nala, she saw the family’s sadness as the little dog was taken away, which only made Alina more determined to find Nala a family who would cherish her for who she is.
Despite this setback, Alina remains devoted to Nala’s well-being. “I’m going to shower her with love, hugs, and treats,” she said, “and I’ll find her the perfect family who’ll love her unconditionally.”
Nala is lucky to have Alina by her side, and with her dedication, it’s only a matter of time before Nala finds a forever home where she’ll be valued and understood.
