While exploring a scenic trail near their home in Elmira, Ontario, Canada, Kaitlyn Mullin and her boyfriend Austin Ropp encountered an unexpected furry friend in need of immediate help.
It was Sunday, June 7, when they stumbled upon a young tabby kitten, who appeared unwell with a noticeable injury to his eye.
Recalling the moment, Kaitlyn shared, “As we walked, this little kitten approached us. His eye was in terrible condition, and he was in clear distress.”

Despite his fragile state, the kitten summoned a faint meow, signaling his plea for help. Without hesitation, Kaitlyn and Austin gently picked him up and hurried back to their car.
Determined to get him the care he needed, they contacted several veterinary clinics before finally finding one that was open.

Rushing there, the couple learned that the kitten, merely three weeks old, was suffering from a severe eye infection, actually caused by the feline herpes virus, which led to his ruptured eye.
Kaitlyn recalled, “The vet believed that without intervention he wouldn’t have survived much longer.” Inspired by their love for animals, Kaitlyn and Austin decided to adopt the kitten, whom they named Uno.

“We couldn’t leave him. He’s such a charming and playful little guy and has become an immediate part of our family,” announced Kaitlyn.
Uno adapted seamlessly to his new home, proving that a one-eyed cat can enjoy life just as fully as any other feline.

“Having likely never had vision in his affected eye due to his young age, Uno thrives in his new role as a playful ‘pirate,'” Kaitlyn explained.
Four months since his rescue, Uno thrives on his daily adventures. Walks on the leash with his loving parents and visits to their workplace, where he’s become the beloved office mascot, are some of his favorite activities.

“He’s quite a character, and everyone enjoys his company,” Kaitlyn mentioned.
Being a young cat, Uno has a penchant for chewing on anything from toys and plants to even his owners’ hands. His playful demeanor catches many off guard, particularly those who might assume a one-eyed cat would be less active.

“He’s one of the most dynamic cats I’ve met,” Kaitlyn noted. “He keeps us on our toes all day.”
Despite losing his left eye, Uno’s zeal for life and speed occasionally get him into mishaps, such as bumping into furniture. “He loves to sprint around, which sometimes leads to little collisions,” Kaitlyn admitted.

While his coordination continues to improve, he retains a charming clumsiness.
Kaitlyn and Austin treasure their unique cat, embracing Uno’s quirks and championing the adoption of special pets like him.

“Cats like Uno are just as loveable and deserving of a home,” Kaitlyn emphasized. “The joy and love they bring far outweigh any challenges.”
Though they hadn’t planned to find a one-eyed cat that Sunday, Kaitlyn and Austin are deeply thankful for encountering Uno.

His presence has added immeasurable joy to their lives. “Uno is family now,” Kaitlyn expressed warmly, adding, “He’s one of the sweetest gifts life has brought us.”
