A small French Bulldog was discovered trapped in a crate in a California parking lot, unable to escape or seek help. The dog, who would later be called Goober, bore an open wound on his back and appeared to be in significant discomfort.
Alone in his crate, all Goober could do was hope for a savior.
Fortunately, Angela Adan, the founder of Deserving Dogs, a nonprofit rescue organization based in California, happened to arrive at the parking lot. Seeing the crate and the dog inside, Angela immediately sensed that Goober needed urgent care.
Goober met Angela’s gaze from behind the bars with eyes pleading for compassion. Angela was heartbroken at the scene. “You could tell that somebody just shoved him in there and left quickly,” Angela shared with The Dodo.
Without wasting any time, she opened the crate and gently reassured Goober, who willingly accepted her help, sensing her genuine intention.
Angela promptly took Goober to a nearby veterinary clinic for an assessment. The vet found that Goober’s wound was badly infected, and the little dog was suffering from malnutrition. It seemed as though he had been deliberately abandoned.
Angela hoped that scanning Goober’s microchip would provide information about his owner, but the chip was unregistered, leaving no clues about his past.
Committed to Goober’s recovery, Angela took him home to foster him and devoted her attention to making him feel secure and alleviating his discomfort.
Initially, even the softest touch made Goober flinch, but Angela was gentle and patient. Over time, with the proper care, Goober began healing both physically and emotionally. “It took months, but finally he started to heal,” Angela recounted.
As his wounds closed and his fur started to regrow, Goober’s cheerful nature also returned. Once wary and reserved, he gradually became affectionate, often wagging his tail in delight and seeking cuddles from Angela.
Angela was amazed by Goober’s transformation, sharing on Instagram her disbelief at his previous abandonment. “He’s such an amazing little dog and I can’t believe someone would let him get into that condition and then just leave him outside like that.”
Once Goober had fully regained his strength, Angela knew it was time to find him a loving forever home. Soon, a compassionate family met Goober and were immediately charmed by his sweet demeanor.
They committed to embracing him as part of their family, providing the love and care he always deserved.
Today, Goober enjoys a life full of comfort, affection, and companionship. After overcoming daunting challenges, he has finally found a home where he is surrounded by love and joy, just as he always dreamed.
