Josephine, affectionately called “Pheenie,” faced a challenging life after her owner was deported, leaving her alone. She took shelter behind a shipping container in a junkyard, which offered scant protection from the weather.
For nine long years, Pheenie relied on kind locals who occasionally fed her scraps to survive. However, her difficult situation took its toll over time. As Pheenie aged, the years of neglect became evident in her deteriorating health.

An accident with a truck left her with only one eye, and she struggled with multiple health issues, including a spinal cord infection, severe dental problems, a urinary tract infection, and painful breast tumors.
A documentary highlights the efforts of Hope For Paws volunteers who stepped in to rescue Pheenie from her solitary life.

Although reluctant at first, Pheenie came to realize that these strangers were there to help, showing gratitude and relief as she acknowledged her rescuers.
To address her mounting health needs, Pheenie was placed into a permanent foster program. During her final five months, she experienced a life of comfort and happiness on a spacious farm, receiving the care and love she deserved.

Though her life had been filled with hardship and loneliness, Pheenie’s last days were spent surrounded by warmth and compassion. She passed away peacefully, cherished and loved.
