Many people might not realize just how deeply dogs bond with their human owners, often considering them as their one and only true companion. Unfortunately, this bond is sometimes cruelly severed when dogs are abandoned instead of being taken to a shelter.
A heartbreaking incident recently occurred in Southern California, where a large dog, weighing 75 pounds, was thrown out of a car by his owner. The dog was left stranded and bewildered amidst the busy street traffic.
Confused and distressed, the dog ran around in circles, unsure of what to do after being deserted. A local rescuer named Mary noticed the dog’s plight and quickly informed Suzette Hall, leader of the California-based rescue group Logan’s Legacy.
Hall shared on Facebook, “When he first got thrown out he was so confused, running around in circles in traffic.” Despite her efforts to help, Mary found that the dog was too frightened to allow anyone near. He remained aimless on the street, at risk from the bustling traffic. The situation turned perilous when the dog narrowly avoided being hit by a large Jeep, frightened by the commotion of moving vehicles.
Hall recounted the tense moment in her post, describing, “He is literally 75 pounds and so big but so scared. A huge jeep with huge tires literally went over him. Thank God the jeep was so high off the ground.”
Determined to help, Hall enlisted the assistance of fellow rescuers Karla, Yamileth, and Nunez. By the end of the day, this compassionate team succeeded in gaining the dog’s trust with some tasty treats, coaxing him into the safety of a fenced yard.
Though still shaken by his ordeal, the dog was finally secure. This significant step marked the beginning of a new, hopeful chapter in his life. He was given the name Benji.
“You could see the relief on his face once he was safe in the yard. My heart was so happy, knowing his fears were finally over,” Hall expressed.
Under the care of these dedicated rescuers, Benji began to heal from his traumatic experience. For the first time, he encountered genuine kindness and care, safely removed from the harshness and dangers of street life.
In foster care, Benji will have the opportunity to socialize and form new bonds with other animals. Ultimately, he will search for a new forever home, one filled with joy and love, as he truly deserves.
