However, despite legal protections, numerous individuals continue to flout the law, subjecting these creatures to confinement in cramped, unsanitary cages within roadside zoos.

Exploiting their plight, owners profit from their suffering, with bears being among the most common victims of such exploitation.
In a recent intervention by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, 13 bears were rescued from backyard enclosures and roadside menageries.
These unfortunate animals exhibited various health issues, ranging from underweight to obese, and some suffered from intestinal parasites or broken teeth.
Collaborating with PETA and the Wild Animal Sanctuary, these distressed souls were relocated to a sanctuary in Colorado.
Here, they will undergo rehabilitation and adjustment before being released into naturalistic habitats, granting them the opportunity to experience life as true bears for the first time.
