On a dark, misty winter evening, Emily Orr was driving back from her mother’s house through the town of Parkville, Missouri. As she passed the local dog park, she was startled by an unusual sound that seemed like a plea for help.
Trusting her instincts, Orr decided to investigate further. She carefully approached the park, feeling uneasy and determined to ensure no one was in distress. Near the park’s fence, she spotted a forlorn-looking dog, gazing at her with a look that clearly signaled a desperate need for help.

Orr’s heart went out to the abandoned pup, and she immediately felt compelled to assist. However, with her young daughter in the backseat, she couldn’t leave the car. Orr promptly contacted the police and also reached out to her mother for support.
As she waited, Orr circled the park, searching for the dog’s owner or any sign of a family, but found no one. The pup, who was later named Emilia, followed her along the fence, clearly anxious and alone. When Orr rolled down her window, Emilia’s eyes were filled with sadness, intensifying Orr’s resolve to help.
Soon, the police and Orr’s mother arrived at the scene. Emilia responded with excitement, wagging her tail eagerly at their arrival. “She came to us right away and was unbelievably excited!” Orr shared with The Dodo. “She jumped right into my mom’s car and enjoyed the treats my mom had brought.”

Upon closer examination, it was evident that Emilia was malnourished and weak, and it was a good thing Orr had found her when she did. Orr suspected the pup might have been abandoned around sunset.
Taking Emilia home, Orr’s mother found the night challenging as the anxious pup barked incessantly, leaving the household sleepless. To help Emilia feel secure, she purchased a kennel the next day, which the pup quickly took to, displaying her good house manners by putting herself to bed each night.
Over the following days, Emilia’s delightful personality began to shine. She played with toys and even made friends with Orr’s mother’s cats.

Emilia’s unique character was further revealed during a health scare involving Orr’s mother. One evening, when Orr’s mother suffered severe abdominal pain due to a ruptured appendix, Emilia instinctively stayed by her side, resting her head gently on her caregiver’s stomach, refusing to leave her alone.
Despite wishing to keep Emilia, Orr’s mother sought a forever home for the pup. She turned to Friends of Parkville Shelter, who found Emilia a foster family.
Now thriving in her foster home, the joyful pup eagerly awaits her permanent home. With her loving spirit and resilience, it’s only a matter of time before Emilia’s wish for a forever family is fulfilled.
