Late last month, Beth, an animal rescuer, received a call about two stray kittens living beneath a porch.
Just a few months old, the kittens were friendly and in need of care. Beth immediately set out to give them the home and attention they deserved.
Upon arrival, Beth noticed that one of the kittens, Hazel, had an eye infection that required immediate treatment.
She took Hazel home to start her recovery while the homeowner continued to watch over the second kitten, Sally.
“She thought she could go back for Sally once Hazel received medical help,” shared Stephanie Grantham, president of Sparkle Cat Rescue, with Love Meow.
Thanks to community support, Beth arranged for Hazel’s eye surgery. “One of her eyes was in bad shape, and after two weeks of treatment with no improvement, it had to be removed.”
After spending months outside, Hazel seemed relieved to finally have a comfortable place to call home.
She settled happily into her rescuer’s arms as if she knew she was safe. A Sparkle Cat Rescue volunteer soon took Hazel in to help her through her recovery.
With her pain gone and her confidence building, Hazel quickly regained her playful side, exploring every corner and climbing cat trees with new energy.
“She even slept with her foster mom on the first night,” Stephanie noted. “She loved it.”
A few days later, Beth returned to check on Hazel’s sister, Sally. The long-haired, dilute calico kitten was immediately affectionate, eager for attention and cuddles.
When Beth saw how much love Sally had to give, she asked Stephanie if they could make room for one more.
Once in foster care, Sally wasted no time making herself at home, rubbing her face against every surface, purring as she explored her surroundings.
“This girl loves attention,” Stephanie shared. Even while Stephanie worked, Sally stayed close, placing her paw on Stephanie’s shoulder and nuzzling her arm.
The two sisters, now both safe indoors, were ready for a reunion. A foster family stepped forward to bring the siblings together again.
Within days, Hazel and Sally were chasing each other through the house and curling up together at night, happy to be side by side.
“They’re both very affectionate and social,” Stephanie said. “They love playing with toys and cuddling with people.”
With the help of Beth, Sparkle Cat Rescue, and their foster family, Hazel and Sally have been given a fresh start filled with warmth, food, and, most importantly, each other.
