The Hope for Paws organization received an urgent message about a homeless dog near a busy road.
Rescuers Eldad and Loreta Frankonyte quickly responded, fearing for the dog’s safety. Upon arriving at the scene, they saw the nervous dog hiding behind an iron fence.
Loreta felt uneasy as the area was known for gang activity. She tried to gain the dog’s trust by offering pieces of a cheeseburger, but Eldad advised her to be cautious to avoid being bitten. He suggested placing the burger pieces near a snare, hoping the dog would grow comfortable.
Eldad also instructed Loreta to throw the burger crumbs further away to keep the dog interested in the food while maintaining a safe distance.
This approach aimed to make the dog feel more at ease around strangers. With burger pieces scattered around the snare, the dog focused on eating rather than the stick and loop nearby.
After patiently waiting, the rescuers finally captured the dog using the snare. The frightened dog, later named Freya, tried to escape by jumping and running.
Loreta placed a “Lucky Leash” around Freya’s neck, and with careful guidance, they managed to secure her.
Although the rescuers offered more food, Freya showed more interest in their affectionate pets. They placed her in a cage in their van and transported her to Cares.
Freya received treatment for ticks, a bubble bath, and a thorough check for any remaining ticks on her body.
