The story of Blue touched me deeply. From his early adoption to his eventual abandonment, his experiences were heart-wrenching. Yet, without these trials, he might never have found himself in the safe haven where he belongs today. Despite what he went through, Blue certainly deserved much better.
Here’s his journey.
McKenna Davidson, a professional soccer player living abroad at the time, first encountered Blue when she found him alone on the side of the road, without his mother or siblings in sight. Thanks to her compassion, Blue was brought to Animals Need Me, a local rescue organization. The shelter was full, so McKenna agreed to foster Blue until she returned to Hawaii, spending a wonderful month bonding with him.
During this time, McKenna discovered just how sweet Blue was. The pair quickly formed a close bond, sharing every moment together, from leisurely walks to city adventures. However, their time together was limited, and soon McKenna had to return home, leaving Blue in the care of her friends at the rescue shelter.
Though sad to leave him, McKenna hoped for good news about Blue’s future. Her optimism proved right—just a few weeks later, Blue found a new home. Unfortunately, this happiness was short-lived, as the shelter learned that Blue’s new family kept him chained outside in a small doghouse. Heartbroken, the shelter took Blue back into their care.
Some months later, another family expressed interest in adopting Blue, sparking hope anew. McKenna and the shelter believed this would be the beginning of a happier chapter for him. However, Blue’s journey was far from over.
One night, the shelter experienced a shocking incident. A dog was thrown over their wall, and to their disbelief, it was Blue! His second home had turned out to be worse than the first. McKenna, informed of the situation, shared her outrage on Instagram, stating, “They threw him over this wall because they didn’t want him anymore. When the shelter informed me, I knew we had to bring him home with us.”
Overwhelmed by Blue’s ordeal, McKenna decided to adopt him herself, prepared to tackle the paperwork and logistical challenges ahead. It took four months, many sleepless nights, and numerous arrangements, but Blue finally embarked on his journey to Hawaii, traveling through cities like Atlanta and Oregon on his way.
When Blue arrived at his new home, he was noticeably grown but still retained the spark that made him so special. With his captivating eyes and joyful smile, Blue embodied resilience despite everything he had endured.
McKenna shared, “He teaches us about resilience, forgiveness, hope, and unconditional love. People say he’s lucky, but truly we are the fortunate ones. Blue will never have to worry about abandonment or harm again.”
Now, Blue is finally where he belongs—in a loving home with a family that cherishes him. Despite his past, Blue is a gentle soul, holding no grudges against those who wronged him. With McKenna by his side, he plans to embrace life fully and enjoy the adventures ahead. He couldn’t be happier.
