Adopting an animal is a lifelong commitment, requiring love, patience, time, and resources. It’s not just about enjoying their company but also meeting their emotional and physical needs.
Unfortunately, some adopters underestimate this responsibility, as highlighted by a recent incident shared by Alina, a Mexican animal rescuer and founder of Recatalandia.
Alina had placed Nala, an energetic and affectionate puppy, into what seemed like a suitable home. However, the family quickly returned her, claiming frustration with Nala’s habit of urinating when overly excited. This behavior, while common in puppies, proved too much for them.
Alina expressed her disappointment, explaining that this situation could have been avoided if the family had approached adoption with realistic expectations about caring for a young dog.
“They returned her because she pees with excitement when she feels love,” Alina shared. “Today, I’m angrier than I can describe.”
Picking Nala up from the family’s home, Alina noticed the puppy’s sad expression as they left, a sight that only deepened her frustration.
Despite this setback, Alina remains determined to find Nala a home where she will be cherished unconditionally.
“I’ll give her all the love I can—endless hugs, kisses, and the best treats,” Alina vowed. “And I will find her someone who loves her as much as she deserves.”
Nala is now back in Alina’s care, waiting for a family who understands that her enthusiasm is just another way of showing her affection.
