Scarlett Johansson, the renowned Hollywood actress, recently opened up about her decision to avoid social media.
In a candid interview, the 38-year-old star compared herself to a “weak flower,” explaining that she feels too fragile to handle the pressures of online platforms.
Johansson revealed her sensitivity, stating, “I can’t use social media because I am too fragile. My brain is too fragile. I am like a weak flower. I have enough stress on my own.”
She recounted a brief experiment with social media that lasted only three days. During this time, she found herself wasting time by excessively browsing, even spending 20 minutes looking at the profile of an acquaintance’s friend.
This experience made her realize that social media was not just a time-waster but also detrimental to her mental well-being as she found herself comparing her life unfavorably to others. “I feel like I don’t have the freedom and spontaneity that many people have in their daily lives,” she added.
In the same interview, Johansson also discussed the challenges of motherhood, likening it to being in an emotionally abusive relationship.
The actress, who has an 8-year-old daughter with ex-husband Romain Dauriac and a 2-year-old son with current husband Colin Jost, shared insights into her parenting journey. She noted that parenting became more complicated when her first child turned three.
“Before that, I thought being a mother was great,” Johansson said. “But then, when my child turned three, I started to feel like I was in an emotionally abusive relationship. The tantrums and crying of young children are so scary that no reason can explain them. Powerful emotions change continuously; children can also be stubborn and persistent.”
Despite these challenges, Johansson expressed a deep love for her children, acknowledging the efforts children must make to adapt to their rapidly changing environments.
She highlighted the joy and affection children bring, stating, “In general, I think having children is a wonderful thing. The children are adorable. They are always there, always liking you in a very natural way.”
Johansson concluded by admitting her biggest fear is dealing with her children’s anger and sadness, moments she finds particularly difficult to manage.
