Scarlett Johansson, accustomed to gracing magazine covers solo, is sharing the spotlight for Vogue’s April issue, which highlights female talent from 14 countries.
This rare double issue, themed “Global Talent,” aims to celebrate the diversity and achievements of women worldwide.
On one of the covers, Johansson is featured alongside South Korean actress Doona Bae and Indian actress Deepika Padukone.
The second cover includes French actress Léa Seydoux, Chinese social media star Angelababy, Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki, and Nigerian actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington.
Reflecting on her early career, Johansson shared her experience filming “Lost In Translation” in Tokyo at 17. She described it as challenging due to the seven-week shoot, the language barrier with the Japanese crew, and missing her boyfriend.
“It was just a different time to be an American in Tokyo,” she said, noting how social media now bridges such gaps, making people more connected.
Promoting her upcoming film “Avengers: Endgame,” Johansson spoke about the evolving entertainment landscape. “There’s a scope to entertainment today that’s much more saturated,” she explained.
The issue also delves into topics like gender and nationality. Léa Seydoux desired a world without these labels, inspired by her role as a lesbian artist in “Blue Is The Warmest Color.” Alba Rohrwacher, of German and Italian descent, voiced her ambition to play male roles, similar to Cate Blanchett in “I’m Not There” or Tilda Swinton in “Orlando.”
Elizabeth Debicki highlighted the lack of diverse roles for women in film compared to the varied characters available to men.
“We need a myriad of experiences,” she stated, emphasizing the growing opportunity for women to collaborate and share their stories.
Brazilian telenovela star Bruna Marquezine discussed her early fame and high-profile relationship with soccer player Neymar at 17. Similarly, Angelababy, often dubbed the “Kim Kardashian of China,” boasts over 98 million followers on Weibo.
Adesua Etomi-Wellington expressed her passion for Nollywood, Nigeria’s film industry. “I feel like she’s my baby,” she said, emphasizing her commitment to its growth alongside other performers.
