Last Update:

Scarlett Johansson, renowned for her legal battle with Disney, recently voiced her discontent with Hollywood’s pigeonholing of her into overly sexualized roles despite her diverse talent.

Starting her career as a child actor on Broadway, Johansson transitioned to adult roles with her breakthrough performance in the 2003 film “Lost in Translation” alongside Bill Murray.

Since then, she has become a dominant force in Hollywood, boasting the title of the highest-grossing star with a staggering $14.5 billion in box office earnings.

Despite her success, Johansson expressed frustration with being typecast and objectified early in her career, citing roles that confined her to a “bombshell” archetype.

In an interview on the “Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi” podcast, Johansson revealed the pressures she faced to conform to Hollywood’s standards of beauty and sexuality, particularly evident in films like “Match Point” (2005).

Reflecting on her journey, Johansson attributed her shift from objectified roles to motherhood, prompting her to seek more substantial and diverse characters.

Acknowledging her agent, Bryan Lourd, for supporting her career evolution, Johansson emphasized the importance of empowering young actresses to choose roles that resonate with them authentically.

With recent acclaimed projects like “Jojo Rabbit” and “Asteroid City,” Johansson continues to challenge herself with diverse roles, including her upcoming portrayal of Royal Navy Captain Katherine in “North Star,” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.
