Scarlett Johansson Opens Up About Romanticizing Her Marriage with Ryan Reynolds

Last Update:

Scarlett Johansson, widely known for her roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently shared insights into her personal life, particularly regarding her marriage to actor Ryan Reynolds.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Johansson discussed her views on family and marriage, expressing a desire for both but acknowledging that she hadn’t found the right partner.

Reflecting on her first marriage to Reynolds, she admitted to romanticizing the relationship and spoke about the lessons learned from it.

“The idea of building a family, making a family, and having that work, I like that idea. I think that would be wonderful. I’ve always wanted that,” Johansson said. “I also wanted that in my marriage to my daughter’s father. It just wasn’t the right person. But I like that idea.”

Although not explicitly mentioning Reynolds, Johansson confessed to marrying him at 23 and having an idealized perception of marriage. “I mean, the first time I got married, I was 23 years old. I didn’t have an understanding of marriage.

Maybe I romanticized it, I think, in a way,” she shared. The couple tied the knot in 2008 but divorced in 2011.

Johansson emphasized her growth since then, describing it as a “different part” of her life where she can make more rational choices.

“I feel like I’m in a place where I can make more active choices. I’m more present, I think, than I’ve been before,” she said.

Following her divorce from Reynolds, Johansson married French journalist Romain Dauriac in 2014, but the marriage ended in divorce in 2017. She is currently married to Colin Jost, whom she married in 2020.
