Johansson, who also has a daughter named Rose from her previous marriage to Romain Dauriac, managed to keep her pregnancy a secret until shortly before Cosmo’s birth.

Johansson’s husband, Colin Jost, surprised fans by announcing the pregnancy in August, and news of Cosmo’s birth quickly followed.

Jost took to Instagram to confirm the news, writing, “Ok ok, we had a baby. His name is Cosmo. We love him very much.”

During an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Jost humorously shared that his mother was initially confused by their choice of Cosmo, suggesting alternatives like “Cosimo” and “Cosmos.”

He recounted how she repeatedly called to check if they had finalized the name on the birth certificate.

In her Vanity Fair interview, Johansson explained that her decision to keep her pregnancy private stemmed from a desire to avoid public scrutiny and criticism. “I’ve been so protective of both pregnancies, not wanting to feel scrutinized in the public eye,” she said.

Johansson wanted to experience her changing body on her terms, whether positive or negative, without external commentary.

She further elaborated that pregnancy often invites people to project their feelings onto her. “I would have many people saying things to me immediately, like, ‘How great, oh my God, that’s wonderful.’

And while I was excited to be pregnant in some ways, I also had a lot of not-great feelings about it,” Johansson shared.

The Marvel star also felt judged by other women who had been through pregnancy themselves. “You expect it from men, but from women, it’s like, ‘Come on, girl, you’ve been through it,'” she remarked.

She expressed gratitude for a friend who responded candidly when she announced her pregnancy, saying, “Oh [expletive]. Great, but not great,” a response Johansson appreciated for its honesty.
