Scarlett Johansson is rumored to be in talks for the lead role in Gareth Edwards’ new Jurassic World movie, slated for a 2025 release.
Jeff Sneider of The InSneider reports that Johansson has been offered the starring role in the highly anticipated Jurassic World installment.
While Johansson hasn’t officially accepted the offer yet, Sneider notes that she has met with Edwards and producer Frank Marshall at least once to discuss the project.
Johansson, widely recognized for her role as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has an extensive filmography.
Her notable performances include 2006’s The Prestige, 2013’s Under the Skin and Her, 2014’s Lucy, 2017’s Ghost in the Shell, 2019’s Marriage Story, and 2023’s Asteroid City.
In addition to the potential Jurassic World role, Johansson will soon appear in Project Artemis, a film directed by Greg Berlanti about the 1960s space race, co-starring Channing Tatum and Ray Romano.
She is also set to feature in Kristin Scott Thomas’ North Star and lend her voice to Elita One in the animated Transformers One movie.
Details About the New Jurassic World Movie
Universal announced in February 2025 that a new Jurassic World movie is in the pipeline. Initially, Deadpool 2’s David Leitch was set to direct, but he exited the project due to creative differences shortly after the announcement.
Gareth Edwards, known for directing 2014’s Godzilla, 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and 2023’s The Creator, has since taken over as director.
David Koepp, who penned the script for 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park, is writing the screenplay for this new Jurassic World movie.
While specific plot details are still under wraps, the film is expected to usher in a “new Jurassic era” without returning characters from previous installments.
Filming for the new Jurassic World movie is anticipated to start later this year, with a release date set for July 2, 2025.
