Scarlett Johansson delivered a humorous impression of Senator Katie Britt’s Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL), highlighting Britt’s stern demeanor and contentious remarks about migrants.
The SNL cold open started with Mikey Day playing President Biden, humorously recreating his interactions with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The sketch then transitioned to Johansson portraying Britt’s GOP rebuttal, showcasing the “Black Widow” star’s comedic chops.
“I have the honor of serving the great people of Alabama,” Johansson, as Britt, began. “But tonight, I’ll be auditioning for the part of scary mom.” She then added, “I’ll be performing an original monologue called ‘This Country is Hell.’”
Johansson continued, portraying Britt as “not just a senator” but also a “wife, mom, and the craziest b**** in the Target parking lot.”
She mocked Britt’s dramatic storytelling pivot to a narrative about sex trafficking, hinting at the senator’s critique of Biden’s border policies with exaggerated details.
“And rest assured, every detail about it will be real,” Johansson quipped, “except the year, where it took place, and who was president when it happened.”
This performance referenced Britt’s story about meeting a woman at the U.S.-Mexico border who had been repeatedly assaulted while being trafficked, a story criticized for inaccuracies about when and where the events occurred.
Continuing the satire, Johansson joked about the kitchen setting of Britt’s rebuttal, claiming kitchens are where families have “hard conversations,” like the one about “how mommy freaked out the entire country.”
Johansson wrapped up the parody with a humorous reassurance to the American people: “To those struggling right now, know this: We hear you, we see you, we smell you. We’re inside your kitchen right now, looking through your fridge. And what’s that on your top shelf? Migrants.”
Her husband further complemented Johansson’s portrayal, SNL cast member and “Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost.
Jost humorously referred to Britt’s rebuttal as a one-woman show titled “A Britt Much,” jokingly questioning Britt’s well-being with the line, “Is she ok?”
Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost, who married in 2020, welcomed their son, Cosmo, the following year.
