Elephants are considered to have a high intellect. They are also very sociable, always growing in their herd.

Meet Ellie, a young baby elephant, rejected by his herd of elephants because of a chronic illness. He had no chance to survive alone in the wild.

Fortunately, the volunteers of the Rhino Orphanage rescued and brought the poor baby to the reserve in Zululand, where he received special attention and care.

Although the orphanage was focused on caring for rhinos, Ellie was not turned away. Even more, the staff tried their best to invent a new milk formula, as he was allergic to any milk.

They use well-cooked rice and added extra minerals and proteins. So Ellie slowly gained weight and was healthy, he recovered from his illness, but one thing was still missing anyway. He was very lonely.

Ellie faced psychological problems when he does not have the opportunity to interact with his elephant family.

The staff didn’t know how to help the poor creature with his social needs.

But the support was very close. It was a former service dog named Duma who saved the sad elephant from his sadness.

As soon as the Duma arrived, they immediately formed a new friendship and became inseparable.

They were playing in the sand and liked to chase each other.

Ellie became cheerful and looked very happy. He found solace in his new friend. Duma helped him overcome sadness and loneliness.
