A remarkable sight has been captured in the wild: a rare “pink” elephant calf, born with albinism, has defied the odds and is surviving in the Masai Mara. Ranger and wildlife photographer Mostafa Elbrolosy captured the precious moment.
Elbrolosy, who operates a hunting camp in the area, had received word of the baby elephant’s birth. However, he was taken aback when he saw the unique calf in person. “It was a rare sighting,” he remarked.
For wildlife photographers like Elbrolosy, rare animals are incredibly captivating, and the chance to photograph this one felt like a dream come true.

Upon hearing the news, Elbrolosy quickly wrapped up his work, grabbed his camera, and searched for the baby elephant with one of his guides.
They were in for a surprise: after a long, quiet search, they finally found the albino calf. Few people had come to see it, as no one had expected it to be albino.
Elbrolosy feels incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to witness and photograph this extremely rare baby elephant.
He noted that the calf is doing well, even though the intense sun is not ideal for an albino elephant. The herd provides ample protection, and the calf attempts to feed from its mother and walk with her.
At the time of the sighting, the baby elephant was just eight hours old, making the encounter all the more extraordinary.
