On an ordinary morning drive to work, Texas plumbers Carlos Carillo and his colleague stumbled upon a heartbreaking discovery in a roadside ditch.
At first glance, they couldn’t identify the creature struggling to move, but upon closer inspection, they realized it was a dog in distress. The animal’s mouth was cruelly taped shut, and its legs were bound with tubing, leaving it helpless and abandoned.
Without hesitation, Carillo and his coworker stepped in to help. To their surprise, despite the dire situation, the dog seemed cheerful and affectionate, craving the attention he was receiving from his rescuers.
“He appeared to be in high spirits,” Carillo shared with The Dodo. The duo estimated that the dog had only been stranded for a day or two.
The two men swiftly transported the dog to Peewee’s Pet Adoption Center, a nearby shelter that does not euthanize its animals.
Once there, the dog’s visible relief was undeniable, and Carillo couldn’t help but note the joy on its face, stating, “He knows he’s been saved!”
Although the dog was diagnosed with heartworms, he was otherwise in good health and immediately began treatment.
A representative from the shelter told The Dodo that the dog “can’t stop wagging his tail,” showcasing his gratitude and zest for life.
The person responsible for leaving the dog in such a state has not been identified, but thanks to the swift action of the plumbers, the dog now has a fresh start.
What he needs now is a permanent, loving home to continue his journey. This happy and resilient dog is eagerly awaiting a family to call his own.
