Chicago Animal Care & Control has made the difficult decision to euthanize an eight-year-old dog named Topper, who has undeniably lived through extraordinary circumstances.
Topper was found wandering as a stray on the roof of a building after experiencing a traumatic series of events. Tragically, four members of his family died, including one by suicide, leaving Topper to fend for himself.
His rescue, which involved using a crane to hoist him safely off a deteriorating building, captured significant media attention.
Left to guard the memories of his lost family amidst the house’s decay, Topper was the lone survivor of a heart-wrenching tragedy.
In a single moment, Topper’s entire world was shattered. Despite the hardships he’s faced, Topper has shown himself to be a sweet, gentle, and friendly dog.
Chicago Animal Care & Control, currently filled to capacity, needs more foster families and adopters to help other animals in need.
During his six-month stay at the shelter, Topper has experienced love from the caring staff. While he enjoys being cuddled, he has become very accustomed to his surroundings at the shelter and deeply attached to his volunteer caregiver.
Shelter officials note that if Topper is adopted, he should be the only dog in his new home.
Topper is a delightful, calm, and curious dog. He loves engaging in agility activities and solving food puzzles, bounding around with enthusiasm.
Love has found its way into his heart; now all he needs is a permanent home where that love can truly flourish.
