Two young cheetah sisters, just under a month old, are capturing the hearts of visitors at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
The adorable cubs are being hand-raised by staff after their mother, Allie, struggled to care for her previous litter. These tiny cheetahs, each weighing just three pounds, are under constant care and fed regularly by bottle.
A video released by the zoo, which has attracted thousands of views, features the cubs playing in their enclosure, wrestling with each other, and eagerly drinking from their bottles.
As they attempt to walk, the curious cubs squeak and playfully nip at one another, all while visitors watch in delight.
Though small and playful, these cheetahs will eventually become powerful predators, reaching up to 140 pounds and transitioning to a carnivorous diet. Known as the fastest land animals on Earth, cheetahs can run up to 60 mph.
Eileen Neff, lead keeper at the zoo, noted how quickly the cubs are developing. “They started playing when they were just a few days old, even though they could barely walk. It’s been amazing to watch them grow,” Neff shared.
The cubs will be paired with a domestic dog for companionship as they grow. This unique partnership helps young cheetahs feel more at ease in unfamiliar environments, as the dog’s calm demeanor signals no need for alarm.
The cheetah cubs charm staff and visitors alike with their playful antics and growing personalities.
