Last Update:

Sidewalk, a large-scale dog rescue and sterilization organization based in De Doorns, South Africa, is dedicated to improving the lives of animals in need.

Offering free veterinary care, sterilization, and chemotherapy for dogs diagnosed with transmissible venereal tumors (TVT), the organization provides a lifeline for pets and their families.

One such life saved was that of Sid, a dog whose future once seemed uncertain.

Sid’s family, overwhelmed by her cancer diagnosis, considered euthanasia as their only option. However, Sidewalk stepped in, recognizing her condition as TVT—a treatable cancer—and offered to cover her chemotherapy costs.

They gave Sid a chance to fight for her life, even when her previous family decided they no longer wanted her.

Despite this heartbreaking abandonment, Sid’s story took a positive turn thanks to the dedication of the Sidewalk team.

Her journey didn’t end there. Sid found her forever home with a family who was undeterred by her medical history.
