Mbegu’s world was shattered when a tragic incident took away her entire family. Living in Kenya, near a village where an elephant had killed a woman, Mbegu became a target of the villagers’ anger and grief. Even young children threw stones at her, adding to her suffering.
Thankfully, the Naibunga Conservancy stepped in to protect Mbegu, while the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) sent rescuers to ensure her safety.
Once brought to the DSWT, Mbegu found a nurturing environment and began to thrive. She formed a strong bond with her caretakers, who are dedicated to preparing her for a future as an independent elephant in the wild.
However, Mbegu’s story doesn’t end there. This resilient young elephant has also demonstrated her nurturing nature by providing solace to her fellow orphans at the sanctuary.
Her caretakers describe her as one of their group’s most loving and caring members, showing a promising potential to become a mini-matriarch in the making.
