A family from Missoula, Montana, woke up one morning to find an unexpected guest taking a nap near their home – a black bear!
They immediately called for help from the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office explained in a Facebook post that the black bear “opened the door to this mudroom of this residence and somehow managed to latch the door from the inside. After being unable to leave, the bear started tearing through the room but then decided it was tired and climbed into the closet to take a nap.”
And that’s how the deputies from the sheriff’s office found him, sleeping on the shelf.
They continued: “When the deputies knocked on the window, the bear was unimpressed. He slowly stretched, yawned, and looked toward the door without worry.”
Apparently, the deputies tried to get the bear to walk away on his own.
“In the end, the deputies were able to unlock the door in the hopes that he would jump off and leave. However, their efforts were only met with more big bear yawns.”
Here’s a video showing the bear perched up in the closet:
Despite their efforts, it seemed the bear was not in the mood to leave, so the deputies were forced to take the next step and reassure the bear to be relocated.
The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks have come to help in this. It turns out he took a much longer nap than he originally intended.
“The owners were glad he was taken away in good health but won’t forget soon when this intruder came in search of bear supplies!” the sheriff’s office said.
“This is another good reason to lock the door, as we also have unconfirmed reports that he tried two other cabinets before he decided this was the right juuuuuust (kidding)! But seriously, lock it up! ”
