Goose’s journey from abandonment to finding a loving home is a heartwarming story that mirrors the experiences of many dogs. Left alone, he was discovered tied to a fence, wearing only a hopeful smile and a note from his previous owners that read, “Don’t have time. Just take the dog.”

Luckily, Goose’s charming demeanor caught the attention of two passersby. Initially unaware of his situation, they stopped to offer some comfort. Lindsey Hawkins, one of the individuals, decided to take an extra step and became Goose’s foster mom, deeply moved by his plight.

“He really likes people. When he saw someone coming up to him, he was just hoping to be loved on,” Hawkins shared with The Dodo.

Before taking Goose home, Lindsey brought him to a veterinarian. Although he was covered in dirt and ticks, Goose remained patient and friendly throughout the cleaning process, which took several days to ensure he wasn’t stressed.

Lindsey commented on his gentle nature during this time, saying, “He never once showed an ounce of aggression during all of that. I think he knew we were really just trying to help him out,” as reported by The Dodo.

On the way to his new home, Goose showed his sociable character by trying repeatedly to join Lindsey in the front seat of her SUV. Once home, he was initially shy, preferring to stick to carpets and rugs rather than stepping on furniture or hardwood floors.

However, Goose soon adapted, forming bonds with his new family, including a senior therapy dog named Zeus and even a group of chickens. It wasn’t long before Lindsey realized Goose was exactly where he was meant to be.

One defining moment came when Goose stood on his hind legs, wrapped his front paws around Lindsey’s husband, and rested his head against him, a gesture Lindsey interpreted as his way of saying “Thank you.” This act cemented his place as a permanent member of their family.

Just a couple of weeks later, Goose was fully acclimated, freely exploring the house, jumping on beds, and confidently walking on hardwood floors. His spirit and zest for life are so infectious that there are thoughts of training him to follow in Zeus’s footsteps as a therapy dog, spreading joy to others as he has in his new home.
