Zoos today are more than mere showcases for animals; they serve as vital hubs for conservation efforts, actively working to protect endangered species threatened by hunting and human encroachment.

The León Zoo exemplifies this commitment, with recent efforts culminating in the birth of three American Puma cubs less than two months ago.

Under the nurturing care of their mother, the cubs have thrived, reaching stability and strength in their early weeks.

David Rocha Lemus, director of the León Zoo, expressed his delight, stating, “They are approximately a month and a half old… The truth is that [the mother] has done it sensationally, and we are delighted and proud.”

These precious additions to the zoo’s roster hold significant value for the conservation of the species, representing a vital genetic line for Guanajuato.
