A video showing their playful interactions, including mock ambushes and play-fighting, has captured the hearts of wildlife fans worldwide.

Routine Check-Up and Naming On June 20, the zoo’s animal keepers and a vet routinely checked the cubs.

During the examination, the vet administered vaccinations, implanted identification chips, and determined the sexes of the cubs—a male and a female.

In a public vote on the zoo’s website, visitors selected “Wajra” for the female and “Warjun” for the male.

Mom’s Role and Cubs’ Development Saida, the mother, has been attentive to her cubs, ensuring they grow up healthy and safe. Initially, she carried them back to the whelping box if they ventured too far.

However, as the cubs grew older, they began exploring more extensively, leading to more playful interactions with visitors.

Snow leopards typically have two cubs per litter, and as they grow, they start to follow their mother on her hunting trips, although they are more of a hindrance than a help at this stage.

The cubs become fully independent after about 18 months and reach sexual maturity by two to three years, at which point they seek their territory.

Conservation Efforts Snow leopards are an endangered species with an estimated population of around 3,000 adults in the wild.

They face threats from habitat loss, conflicts with shepherds, and poaching for their fur and bones, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine.

Zurich Zoo’s snow leopard cubs contribute to a healthy and stable population in European zoos, playing an essential role in conservation efforts.
