The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent has announced the names of their newest snow leopard cubs following a public competition. The female cub is named “Zaya,” while the male cub is called “Attan.”

Briony Smith, the curator at the Big Cat Sanctuary, shared her excitement about the public’s involvement in naming the cubs.

“The public’s participation in naming our snow leopard cubs was heartwarming,” she said. “We received an amazing response, and we thank everyone who took the time to cast their votes and be a part of this special moment.”

Smith also mentioned that the cubs, Zaya and Attan, are not just adorable additions to the sanctuary but also symbolize hope for ongoing conservation efforts.

According to the sanctuary, Zaya is the more confident of the two cubs and enjoys playing with boomer balls and leaping onto her mother, Laila.

In contrast, Attan is slightly more reserved but is beginning to show signs of coming out of his shell.

Snow leopards are listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), making the birth of these cubs and their successful care vital in supporting this endangered species.
