A dramatic encounter unfolded at Ranthambhore National Park and Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan, India, where a herd of deer narrowly escaped a tiger’s surprise ambush.
The heart-stopping sequence was captured by photographer Mritunjay Kumar Tiwary, who had spent six days scouting the area for the perfect moment.
The scene began with the deer calmly drinking from a pond, unaware of the danger lurking nearby. Concealed in the bushes, the tiger lay in wait, poised to strike. The predator launched its attack in a matter of seconds, but the deer reacted with remarkable speed.
The images captured the intense moment as the tiger leaped towards its prey, only to watch the deer scatter in all directions, including several young fawns.
One striking photo shows a young deer leaping away just in time, narrowly escaping the imminent threat.
Despite its efforts, the tiger’s attempt to secure a meal ended in disappointment. After landing back on the ground empty-handed, the predator was seen roaming the area near the watering hole, reflecting on the unsuccessful chase in the scorching heat.
The herd of deer managed to evade the tiger, leaving the predator to cool off in the water, marking the end of a tense and dramatic encounter in the wild.
