An Alaskan pair recently experienced a remarkable wildlife encounter right in their backyard. Chris More and his partner from Anchorage, Alaska, were astonished to witness a quintet of black bears treating their newly-trimmed lawn as a playground.
More managed to record a remarkable video of the bears happily feasting on the freshly cut clover and grass, seemingly indifferent to their human spectators.
The unbothered and carefree bears enjoyed lounging and playfully wrestling on the lawn while hunting for dandelion snacks.
The furry family made More’s garden their favorite hangout, returning numerous times throughout the day after their initial 45-minute visit.
This was a unique sight for More, who had never before seen such a large group of bears seemingly unthreatened by his presence.
The bears’ ease around people suggests they may have spent considerable time in urban environments, becoming familiar with human presence, according to Ken Marsh, a spokesperson for the Department of Fish and Game, who spoke to KTVA.
While this spectacle fascinated More, his neighbor, Jessica Flickinger, found the situation significantly unsettling.
Flickinger was initially apprehensive when the same group of bears visited her yard. She found some relief, however, when More shared his video on the community Facebook page.
This helped her understand that the bears weren’t targeting her yard specifically but were freely exploring the neighborhood.
The local residents have adopted bear-resistant trash cans to discourage the bears from rummaging through garbage.
“We enjoy witnessing wildlife,” Flickinger explained, “but we prioritize everyone’s safety.”
