Lioness Sirga and her caretaker, Valentin Gruener, share a remarkable bond. Their joy is clear during their reunions, where Sirga runs to Valentin with affection, leaping into his arms, a gesture that captures their unique friendship.
Though Valentin describes Sirga as gentle, he reminds others she is still a wild animal, advising caution around her.

Their journey began over a decade ago when Valentin stepped in as her caregiver after Sirga’s mother stopped feeding her. Born on February 25, 2012, Sirga quickly grew fond of Valentin, embracing him as if he were family.
As Sirga grew, Valentin built her a sanctuary — a sprawling 2,000-hectare reserve where she roams peacefully, free from territorial disputes.

Valentin remains closely involved in her life, often spending time with her as they rest, explore, and share affectionate moments under the shade.
For Valentin, caring for Sirga has brought about a lasting transformation, teaching him profound lessons in empathy and companionship.
This unique bond with Sirga has shaped his view of life and strengthened his commitment to protecting lions in the wild.

He remains dedicated to ensuring Sirga’s well-being and hopes to advocate for the survival of lions across their natural habitats.
